Hiking trails and Walking spots in and around Portland, Oregon

Hiking and Walking Spots Post:

As I am writing this we are amidst the global pandemic, and are nearing the winter. Many are looking for ways to stay active and sane as the weather cools and the sky fills with rain.

So below I detailed my favorite hiking trails and neighborhoods to walk in.

Hikes:

Recently I made this graphic of some of my all-time favorite spots, but keep scrolling for the full list.

Mt Tabor Park

Mt Tabor is one of the most popular hiking spots in Portland and for good reason. On the central eastside of Portland, Tabor has a great mix of hiking trails, water features, stunning views and plenty of places to picnic.

Powell Butte

When you start walking through this luscious park atop an inactive volcano it's often easy to forget that you are surrounded by a sprawling urban center.

If you are looking for a hike with a decent incline and elevation this spot is for you.

Tryon Creek

Located near Lake Oswego Tryon Creek is a large park with a great mix of different hike lengths and difficulties.

This large park often offers great animal sightings. Last time we were there we saw a deer drinking from a creek. It was truly magical.

Tryon also has horseback trails so watch out for droppings on some of the trails!

Forest Park

One of Portland's largest and most popular parks, Forest Park has many great hikes.

My favorites are the Wildwood trail up to Pittock Mansion, and the Redwood trail.

Beaverton Creek Wetlands

A beautiful large wildlife reserve. If you are looking for a park with minimal elevation and a range of different trail lengths this is a great option.

If you go on Saturday make time to go to the Beaverton farmers market after!

Milwaukie Waterfront

A walk down Milwaukie’s waterfront is always a great choice. Go on a Sunday so you can check out their incredible farmers market too!

Sellwood

Sellwood is one of my favorite Portland neighborhoods to explore. I’ll often park my car near SE 13th Ave so I can end my walk by grabbing a coffee and a loaf of bread at Grand Central Bakery or order lunch from Jade Teahouse or Wei Wei.

South West Hills

Looking to get some nice elevation in your walk and to see some gorgeous homes? The SW hills are great.

The west side is known for neighborhoods without sidewalks making walks difficult, but in this particular neighborhood sidewalks exist!

Portland Waterfront

Park on either side of the river and enjoy the views as you walk over your bridge of choice. I like to do a nice circle going over the Tilikum Crossing Bridge, and coming back over the Steel Bridge.

Richmond Neighborhood

This area has been one of my favorite places to walk as of late. It has a lot of long residential streets and many amenities nearby. I love to go for a long walk here and then maybe make a quick trip to target, grab coffee & lunch on Division, or order take out from Pho Hung.

Make sure to bookmark this post for future reference, and because I will be adding more spots to the list as we continue to explore this amazing city.
